Using cryo‑electron tomography and multi‑omics analyses, researchers identify a previously unknown surface complex in Mycoplasma pneumoniae that integrates the Sec‑translocon with an extracellular dome built from three Mdps. Structural homology to PrsA suggests ATP‑independent folding activity, confirmed for Mdp444. The work delivers the first sub‑nanometer maps of the complete bacterial Sec machinery in action.
