Researchers uncovered the regulatory role of MrhbtA in coordinating fungal development and secondary metabolism in Monascus ruber. DAP-seq identified 121 target genes, including key regulators of cell wall remodeling and cell division. The findings establish MrhbtA as a master regulator linking hyphal architecture to enhanced biosynthesis of commercially important Monascus azaphilone pigments.
